As we celebrate a second year filled with maps and impact, we start 2025 with gratitude and a renewed sense of urgency.
Today, the racism and injustices shaping our society are more visible than ever, yet so is the sense of defeatism. Many people don’t know what they can do to make a difference because they are disconnected from organizations that are driving meaningful change.
When Charles and I started North Arrow two years ago, we wrote this mission statement:
We know the solutions to today’s most pressing social problems already exist, carried out daily by thousands of progressive nonprofits. If more people understood their impact, these organizations could scale their efforts. Using mapmaking and visual storytelling, we help progressive nonprofits demonstrate their impact and grow.
We're proud to share that in 2024, we helped 17 incredible nonprofits across 5 countries amplify their impact with over 150 maps.
Below are some of the maps we've built in 2024.
Looking ahead to 2025, some of our upcoming projects include:
A geospatial dashboard to expose workers' rights abuses and advocate for stronger protections in New Jersey
A suite of map-based tools for a NYC nonprofit providing support services to the largest Chinese community outside of China
A collaborative map for French nonprofits supporting migrant camps in and around Paris
A participative data hub for a coalition of early literacy nonprofits in Connecticut
We’re starting 2025 more fired up than ever to expand this work so that more activists can leverage the power of mapping to reach wider audiences, grow coalitions, and improve their strategies.
